Review of EatFirst – A Meal Delivery service for Lunch at Work

Hoisin Chicken
I’ve been ordering from EatFirst quite a lot these past few weeks. They promise to deliver fresh healthy food within 15 minutes. You can choose between 2 options – one vegetarian and the other non-vegetarian - both costing £7 and pay online or via their app.

So far I’ve enjoyed the food. I like how they have a Protein + Carb + Vegetable component in every meal and I’ve been happy with the portion sizes. They also list the ingredients and nutrition facts as well.

Here’s what I’ve ordered:

Hoisin Chicken with Mixed Vegetables and Brown Rice

A great dish that was simple and healthy with broccoli and mange tout.

Teriyaki Glazed Chicken with whole grain Rice, steamed Carrots and Broccoli

I loved this dish! The teriyaki chicken was tender and moist and full of flavour and I like the wholesomeness of the carrots, broccoli and brown rice.

Italian Meatballs with Bulgur Wheat and Quinoa

This was disappointing. There wasn’t much quinoa inside and it felt more like a stew and I was still a bit hungry after.

Paneer and Potato Curry with Brown Rice

Quite filling and I enjoyed the eating the paneer but not one of my personal favourites. I prefer my mum’s cooking with it comes to Indian food :)

Beef in Red Wine Sauce with Green Beans

Beef Fillet with Sweet Potato Mash and Green Beans

This was good as well and I wanted more of the beef.

Grilled Halloumi and Sweet Potato wedges with Puy Lentils

I like the combination of the halloumi with sweet potato with pine nuts, parsley and cherry tomatoes. Though I think £7 is bit steep for a vegetarian meal and I wish there was more vegetables in the mix.

I’m getting dangerously addicted to the comfort of having my food delivered straight to my office door. They are usually there within 10 minutes of ordering! There was one occasion when the order came about 40 minutes late but I got constant updates from them – it was due to a glitch in their GPS and really high volumes. They were super nice and refunded my meal AND gave a voucher for another meal!

To recap:

Pros:
Convenience – you order online or on the app and they are outside your office within 10 to 15 minutes. Impressive.
Flexibility – you’re not locked into a subscription service and can just order when you like and pay online.
Healthy wholesome food – I like how each meal is structured into a healthy Carb + Protein + Vegetable AND it’s tasty – win win.

Cons
Cost - Well I’m paying £7 for lunch when in theory, I could be actually cooking similar meals and saving tons of money. *guilty face*
It’s also bit of rough deal for vegetarians since it’s the same price for veg. and non-veg. meals. I think the vegetarian meals should be cheaper or come with added extra.

I’m trying now to not make it a habit of ordering from EatFirst – but when it’s cold out, I like to hibernate and not step out so I’ve been tempted to order it once or twice a week. If you’re ok with spending £7 on lunch and like the convenience of getting a well balanced meal straight to your office – then I totally do recommend checking it out.

P.S. This is not a sponsored post. EatFirst did not ask nor did they pay me to write the review.  I paid for all my meals except for the one that was refunded due to late delivery.
